Sounds Baroque is an ensemble of singers and period instrumentalists
who
perform music from
Monteverdi to early Mozart. The
group
varies in size and is directed by
Julian
Perkins from the harpsichord.

We
began
life under the name 'Dramma
per Musica', and it remains our aim to convey
the drama
of the music with varied programmes which sometimes include an actor.
Sounds Baroque performs at music festivals and venues all over the UK
and
Europe.
Programmes
of music by
Handel sometimes follow a theme of the composer’s years in Italy and the stories of
his operatic heroines. Other concerts include the
secular
cantatas and concertos of J S Bach and a more general theme of ‘Cupid
and the
many sides of Love’. Sounds Baroque premiered
Artemisia by Paul
Ayres and Jove’s Nod by Stephen Dodgson,
which were composed especially for us when we were called The British
Camerata.
